Join us this June for a fun series of shorter midweek trail races. Our goal is to offer a fun, low-key series of races designed to give newer trail runners an opportunity to dip their toes into the trail racing waters, and to offer more experienced trail racers a chance to sharpen their speed on shorter, quicker courses.
In order to reduce crowding at the start and to be able to cap our numbers at 50 as approved by the Larimer County Health Department and Lory State Park, all participants will be required to pre-register. There will be no race-day registration. We will be offering a rolling wave start from 6:00 through 6:15. Results will be tabulated according to chip times, with series points awarded based on finish times. Top series finishers will earn unique awards.
We’ll have a wide selection of vintage Gnar race shirts, and all registrants are welcome to their pick to call their own.
After each race, we will be providing pizza with support from the Fort Collins Running Club and beverages with support from New Belgium Brewing. Appropriate food and beverage distribution measures will be put in place to ensure safety. Full safety measures and protocols will be communicated to race participants in pre-race emails.
Race dates and distance are as follows:
- June 9: Flat and Fast Eltuck Valley 5k (250′ elevation gain)
- June 16: Into the Hills Eltuck 5k (700′ elevation gain)
- June 23: Into the Hills Eltuck 10k (1,700′ elevation gain)
- June 30: Flat and Fast Eltuck Valley 12k (500′ elevation gain)
Full COVID-19 Safety Considerations below:
COVID-19 Safety Requirements
Runners will be required to wear masks at all times except while running or eating/drinking. Anyone not abiding by that requirement will be asked to leave and have their results invalidated.
The races will be chip timed. Chips will be pre-sanitized and slid across a 6′ table to the participant by a single gloved and masked race staff. The pick up line will have markers set so individuals stand 6′ apart.
Runners will have an open 15min window in which to choose to start – there will be no mass start. Individual start line boxes will be drawn to ensure 6′ spacing, and no more than 10 can be on the line at any given time. Runners present but not lined up will need to maintain 6′ social distancing throughout the remainder of the picnic area.
Do your best to maintain 6′ distance while on-course. If coming up on a slower runner or regular park user while on trail, please give an early verbal notice that you are approaching and wait for hiker/runner to step off to the side before passing.
Post-race pizza and drinks will be offered with the same line up as pre-race chip handouts – a masked and gloved race staff will plate individual servings of pizza and slide them 6′ across a table to the participant. Line segments will be marked with 6′ spacing. Runners will maintain 6′ spacing while hanging out.
Family & friends who are not participating please need to stay home or use a different part of the park. Our numbers are strictly limited.
Susceptible populations (65+, respiratory/immuno-compromised) are strongly recommended to not take part in these events. In addition, anyone who has had symptoms of COVID-19 or been in direct contact with anyone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 is strongly discouraged from taking part.
