We hope for close-to-normal conditions on race day, as related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Current race information reflects a normal year.  Details may change as race day approaches, and any changes will be communicated to registered runners well in advance.  For reference, here are the 2020 COVID Safety Protocols.

There is very limited lodging available in Gould, CO. Most cabins are “rustic” with limited facilities. If you want a place to stay in Gould with a bed and shower, we highly recommend making a reservation as early as possible. There are more than enough campsites in and around State Forest State Park for all participants and crews. Facilities range from full RV sites to free dispersed national forest camping.

Gas and Food

The closest gas station is located in Walden approximately 25-30 minutes west of Gould. If coming from Fort Collins, the last place to fill up with 24 hour pumps is Ted’s Place at the intersection of Hwy 14 & 287 just before you enter the canyon and more than 60 mountain miles from Gould. There is gas available in Rustic halfway up the canyon but the pumps are not open 24/7.

There are 2 small convenience stores 2mi & 4mi North of Race HQ at the Cabins Gift Shop and Never Summer Nordic, both close no later than 8p. There is also a small grocery store and a couple small restaurants in Walden.

On Site Camping at the Gould Community Center

To ensure that we have space for our volunteers and race staff and to adhere to our permit agreement, we can only offer a limited number of runner camp spaces. Late arrivals without a pre-ordered reservation will be turned away. Gates to the community center will be closed after packet pickup ends on Friday night.

If you have not ordered an on-site space with your reservation, please see the local camping and lodging options below to make arrangements for race weekend. There are ample spaces in the immediate area that can be reserved in advance and additional first-come, first-serve spaces available for late arrivals.

On-site car camping spots will be good for 1 car, truck or SUV (RV space is reserved for race staff, medical, and communications teams so please book your own RV site at one of the many local campgrounds). There will be some primitive tent space just a short walk from the parking area. On-site campers may use the common fire pit and picnic table area at the start/finish area, in addition to race port-a-johns. The community center building will be limited to race operations for the duration of the weekend. We ask that on-site campers bring in their own water and pack out their own trash/recycling.

Local Cabins & Yurts

Cabins in Gould are just a few minutes down the road from the start/finish area. Never Summer Nordic has 3 to 4 yurts by the park entrance, in addition to yurts within the park further from the race start. State Forest State Park Cabins at Michigan Reservoir are about 15 minutes from the start.

State Forest State Park campsites can be reserved in advance at Ranger Lakes, Michigan Reservoir, Crags and Bockman.

Ranger Lakes sites are 2 miles down the road from the start/finish and offer RV hookups, bathrooms, and water. Bockman and Michigan Reservoir sites are about 15 minutes from the start and offer pull through sites with bathrooms. There is a water pump located at Michigan Reservoir and Ranger Lakes.

There are many additional primitive campsites available in the park.  They are reservable online.

Routt National Forest campsites are available at the Aspen Campground and the Pines Campground just south of Gould off of 21/740.

Once you are outside of the Gould town area, free dispersed camping is allowed anywhere in the national forest area.  See the Parks Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map for specifics on where camping is legal.
